Dallas Curow

Dallas Curow, MA, is a versatile photographer, director, producer, and writer with over 20 years of experience working between London (ON), Montreal, Toronto, Madison (WI) and now nearly a decade in Edmonton.

After a dozen years as a full-time photographer, Dallas recently co-founded Story Darling Studios—an Edmonton-based production house—with her longtime friend, award-winning film and TV editor, Sarah Taylor, CCE. Dallas brings enthusiasm and a multidisciplinary skill set to every project. Her present area of focus is the juncture of creativity, artist livelihood, motherhood, and neurodivergence, which she is currently exploring through both writing and documentary filmmaking.

Her debut series, INSIDE CREATIVE LIVES, is funded by TELUS STORYHIVE.

Dallas’s work can be seen in several books published by Penguin Random House, as well as in publications such as CBC Arts, the Edmonton Journal, the Calgary Herald, and the Montreal Gazette. She had a regular column with FASHIONmagazine.com. Her Substack newsletter INSIDE CREATIVE LIFE explores the trials and triumphs of making a living from creative work

Dallas began her photography and writing career as an editor at The Gazette, Western University’s daily student newspaper. During that time she was also active as a performer in various productions of Theatre Western, eventually becoming a producer, director, and commissioner. She travelled to Mwanza, Tanzania as a communications intern for Western Heads East, a collaboration between Western University and African partners.

Dallas completed a Master’s degree in Media Studies at Montreal’s Concordia University. Her research investigated the intersection between issues of social justice and new media technologies for expanding notions of volunteerism, international inter-responsibility and global citizenship. During her time in Montreal, Dallas was immersed in the vibrant cultural scene, primarily as a singer/songwriter. Professionally, she was a freelance writer, then worked in marketing and design at McGill University.
